i had a long conversation with this friend of mine and we were talking about how fun kindergarten was - all the games, the food and the memories... sigh!!!!

anyway, i was just trying to recollect all the games we used to play and what weird names we gave them and how we butchered the names of some.

1. ice-pice - i spy you
please note that 'dabba' is different from ice pice

2. oran joosa lamon

CORRECT VERSION
oranges and lemons,
sold for a penny
all the school girls are so many
the grass is green and the roses, red
remember me till i am dead.

3. ringa ringa roses
pocket full of poses,
husha busha
we all fall down

CORRECT VERSION

a ring,
a ring of roses
a pocket full of posies
hushes, hushes
and we all fall down

4. choochand - dodgeball
man, i used to get whacked! i never got a girl quota also. i used to get beaten up with a rubber ball! actually, i used to beat up the boys too, so it didnt really matter.

5. aata saamaan - house, house
i never used t play house-house, so i kinda lost out on something, i guess, but the girls were so annoying to me then. they would play barbie doll and all that jazz and annoy the hell out of me. once, my mom forcefully made me play and i would up whacking the girl and playing ice pice with the boys.

okay, now i am going to tag a few people to write fun - i repeat, only fun memories of kindergarten. I tag Redobsession, Doctor Pissed, Duck, Dalda, Lean Dude and Iyer Up The Ladder.

  • Hi,

Very interesting page! Liked it a lot.

I am trying to teach my kids the age old Malenadu games that we used to play in our childhood - Kalla Police, Teep Teep, Marakothi, Kallu Mannu, Kamba Kambada Aata, Channemane, Chowkabara.

Unfortunately I am not able to recollect the details. Can anybody post the detailed instructions about these games.
