its been 2 hours since the budget was announced. P. Chidambaram really has pulled off a ‘dream’ budget. It has clarity, direction, and is sound and thoroughly balanced. It has managed to envelop all strata of society. The only problem will arise when the government fails to deliver.

At this stage, India needs a paradigm shift of thought if we are looking for an increase in growth. There have been reductions in tax across sectors and has paid a lot of attention to infrastructure, rural development, agriculture, small industries, education and health care.

There have been some taxes that do not make much sense like the one where one has to pay 0.10 for every withdrawal of Rs. 10,000. From a man who introduced the VDIS, this move is somewhat ‘interesting’.

As a student, it is very encouraging to see that education is getting a major part of the plan. The plan to set up AIIMS across India is a welcome move as it will increase health care amenities in a very big way. Also the move to grant IISC 100 crores to make it a high profile university on the lines of Oxford is a forward step in the field of education. In the long run, these institutions will help make India another hub as far as education goes.
