Politically correct? What’s that?

Sometime, when I look at Indian politicians, I feel ashamed. They are either corrupt and swallow tax payer’s money or are corrupt and old and need to be hospitalized for various reasons – again, spending tax payer’s money! Why can we not elect someone who is physically fit, mentally sound, speaks English fluently and does not urinate publicly at airports? After all, India is the biggest democracy in the world!

If you did not find that hilarious enough, here is something that will get your attention. When the Parliament session is on, all comedy shows have low TRP ratings. Not because the general public is interested in political affairs, but because it is better than any slap-stick show. The Speaker is supposed to wield power, but he just sits there passively while members of the Parliament hurl chairs, microphones and just about anything they can lay their hands on. They will then proceed to wash their dirty linen in public and prove that the opposition is seditious and wants to make libelous claims against them. When they are tired, they will promptly nod off and take a nap. The Speaker then adjourns the session for lunch where they will all calm down and stuff their faces. Soon after, the decorum of the House will be lost and the Session will be adjourned to another day. These Parliamentary Sessions take place a maximum of 7 times a year with a minimum of 3. You would think they would take it seriously. The next day’s papers will carry dirty mud-slinging and unwanted waste of news space.

A new crop of young politicians is coming up. They might not be like minded, but I sure hope they don’t make fools of themselves on national and international television! Our ambassador to the USA went on CNN International and publicly refused their aid. When he spoke, I wanted to kill the man. Not because I hated him, but because I felt sorry for him for making such a BIG fool of himself. I don’t think he ever went to the disaster struck area or even watched it for more than 15 minutes on television. I was so irritated that a man of such high stature and power could be so stupid! The disaster may not have had any direct impact on him, but he must have been sensitive and even polite by saying that India would accept US charity when India had run out of its own resources. I do understand that India would lose its status as a developing nation if we took the aid, but being polite would be politically correct and also be a back up plan when and if India is strapped for aid! Like it or not, India is still a third world country and any aid in this time of need is always welcome.
